Leek 1925, the Nicholson Memorial in Leek is officially opened. But for one Frank Hammersley the event only reminds him of what he lost in WW1 and what he gained afterwards. His wife, May, and his children, George, Hilda and Frank are the greatest rewards after his dreadful time as a prisoner of war in Germany for four years. He’s forever changed by what he witnessed and what he experienced, but he seeks solace in the idea that it was the war to end all wars. As the years pass, his youngest, Frank, is growing up in the Staffordshire countryside. A happy, rural childhood. However, as Frankie grows, storm clouds of war bloom on the horizon again. As the relationship strains between father and son, choices are made, and nothing will ever be the same again.
